MISSION TO MEN.
According to an. Australian Cliurali paper, many people in Ballarat regret having missed hearing the Rev. H. S. Woolcombe (who is on a world tour, and who will speak in Xew Plymouth shortly). In other places, where thousands have listened to this inspiring speaker ( they have been much impressed with the charm of his personality, and have come to the conclusion that a London speaker was right when lie stated that ilr. Woolcombe "is one of the best platform' speakers of to-day." The following is an extract from a report of one of.'.Mr. Woolcombe's speeches:—Then, by way of illustration, came the following story of u small shoebiack, asked by one of those splendid wunien who work for Christ amongst tin- Kast haulers for something for the. missionaries. After lie had given the sixpence she had asked for, she also got his promise to go to the meeting at which this particular mission was going to lie spoke On his wav lie was met by a mate. "Where ye goin', Jack?" ''Oli, 1 am just, goin' over to a missionary meeting." "Wot?'"' was t !i'' amazed question. "Well, you see this is how i' is." explained .Jack: "A lady friend of mine asked me for a tanner tor the mission; so I've become a sort of partner in the concern, and now Jin going down to see how my money is .spent.And then, as the laughter subsided. he drove the point in: "If every sl«»cj/i>i;; churchman would wake up to the f",' thiil he is no ehurehman al all until he shows an active concern in the lil'e and all'airs of the church to which lie !n ' ■ nLi's. then iin- churcii would at onev 'ieeomc a hundredfold stronger than i' is to-dav."
