THE TARANAKT TOURNAMENT. The entries for the Taranaki LaWir Tennis Association's championship and handicap tournament, to be held on the New Plymouth Club's courts on New Year's Day and Monday next, are very satisfactory. The meii's events, both handicap and championships, are well ahead of last year's, and ladies' entries are nearly up to the level of last year. Prior to the mail being cleared ' last night there were no fewer than twenty pairs in the men's handicap doubles, and several of the other events showed big lists. Amongst the entrants so far are Clifford Dickie, A. G. Wallace, Warne, Pears*, Jennings, Rwainson, Powdrell. Caplen, and others who are equally well known and popular on the local courts. Should Dickie and Wallace meet Pearse and Jennin'gs in the championship doubles, there should he a fine exhibition of vigorous and scientific tennis. Handicap events have filled up well. Owing to the late hour at which the mail was available last night, we were unable to obtain full particulars of the entries, but sufficient was seen to show that the meeting will be as big as' ever. The courts are in excellent condition, and good weather is now the "one thing | needful."
