THE EFFECT IN AMERICA. Bj Cable—Press Association—Copyright New York, December 27. The worst snowstorm and blizzard !n flte Eastern States for twenty years is raging. The railway, telephone and telegraph services of New York arc paralysed. Tens of thousands of belated suburbanites were forced to walk home through the snowdrifts on Christmas Night. LOSS OF LIFE IN AMERICA. MANY VESSELS WRECKED. 1500 PEOPLE HOMELESS. Received 28, 9.10 p.m. New York, December 28. Eighteen deaths have occurred in the vicinity of New York through the blizzard. Many vessels are ashore. A schooner with 12 lives was lost off Boston. Fifteen hundred people are homeless in Chelsea (Massachusetts) owing to a tidal wave.
