By Cable.—Press Associat/oa.—Copyright Sydncv, Friday. The whole of the coastal districts and highlands have benefited by the rain. At the' height of the gale the wind reached a velocity of 04 miles per hour. Several vessels dragged their anchors, but no serious damage resulted.
Brisbane Friday. Details of the Cloncurry' explosion show that live men were running oil' spirits' at an hotel when one struck a match. A terrific: explosion followed. Two were unhurt. Cullen, one of the victims, rushed down the street with his clothes blazing. The other two were found dead in the room, their clothes burnt oil', and with shocking injuries. Sydney, Friday. Tests were given before a gathering of persons interested in the meat trade of a new process of preservation by fumigation, or dry air, as opposed to Sterilisation. It is claimed the tests were highly satisfactory. .Meat killed and treated on December ,0 and left hanging in an open butcher's shop, exposed to ordinary temperatures, or fifteen days, was found sweet, sound, and of excellent color, without a trace of deterioration. It is also claimed that it could, after treatment, be chilled, exported, thawed, and kept hanging for a month in a butcher's shop. Another advantage is that the process is considerably cheaper than any other known system. Sydney, December 24. An earth tremor was recorded shortly before midnight on Wednesday. It commenced at 10.5.'! and reached the maximum sixteen minutes later, with an amplitude of two minutes, and ended 14 minutes past midnight.
