Torrential rains have fallen over Spain and Portugal, The floods in Castile were the worst in fifty years, destroying bridges', ruining ' crops, and devastating whole districts. Portuguese railway communication is almost nt a standstill.

The storm at Oporto swept away vessels from their moorings, and they grounded on sandbanks, where the crews abandoned them. The river Douro has risen forty feet. Received 27, 10.5 p.m. Madrid, December 27. The rivers in spain and Portugal have subsided. Several villages in the Vnbn cina and Zamora districts were devastated.

Six persons, including the captain, were drowned aboard the German steamer Cintra, wrecked in the Douro.
