ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Friday. The body of James Bead Miller, ship's butcher on the steamer Navua, was found floating in the Buller Eiver yesterday afternoon. He was missed from the steamer on the 10th. An inquest wag held and a verdict of "found drowned" returned.
Auckland, Friday. John Beadle, aged six years, died in they hospital from blood poisoning. It was tirst attributed to poison from the tendrils of a jelly fish, supposed to have been got while bathing, hut the hospital authorities are doubtful if this was the cause of poisoning.
Christchurch, Saturday Night, •lolm Hall, also known as Hicks, died suddenly at Sock-hum to-day. A medical man was called in just before, Hall died, but he was unable to give a ccrticate.
Christcliureh, Sunday. Mary Portclli j an elderly woman, was found dead in her house at midday today, in circumstances necessitating an inquest.
At the inquest on John Thomas Hall, commonly known as Jock Hicks, who died suddenly yesterday, a verdict of death from congestion of the lungs was returned.
Christchurch, Last Xight. At the inquest on Man- McLoiHilan, otherwise Portelli. the evidence oi the police was to the effect that deceased was a well-known prostitute with -18 convictions. The medical evidence was that the post movfem examination showed that death was caused by heart failure.
Auckland, Saturday. A harbor fatality occurred at Auekland this morning. Four men named ]). Winter (21), Hector Lovelock (21) Jenkins (19), and F. Kellv (101,' who were camping near Orakei, six miles from the city, went fishing in nn o p en boat, which swamped linlf a mile from the shore. A south-west gale W a.s raging, and the rough sea overcame all the occupants before assistance arrived. Auckland, Last Night. Mm. F. Butlers, a dentist, of Qucei street, was found dead in his rooms this morning with a glass of cyanide of potassium by Mm. He was last seen on Christmas Eve. It is understood be had been losing in mining speculations. Dunedin, Sunday. A man named Alexander Stewart,' 78 years of age, committed suicide by shooting himself this mui-i----nig. Deceased, who resided near Anderson's Bay, appeared to be In his usual health when ho rose, but after having breakfast lie went to some trees surrounding the house, and resting a gun on the fork of a tree, apparently pulled the trigger, the charge going through lus heart. Deceased had been complaining of pains in his back for some time. TimarU) Sunday. A man, said to be intoxicated, fell off the north-bound express yesterday at Pacroa, An engine and van sent for him found him unhurt.
rm. , , , Glßborlle . Last Night. J. lie body of a man named Hill was found on the roadside at Motu on Christmas Day, having apparently been dead several days. The police are endeavoring to arrange an inquest.
