The first day of the Manawatu races was held to-day in fine weather. There was a good attendance. The sum ol £M$4 was put through the machine, against ,£7930 last year. The bookmakers' fees totalled £321 10s'Id, an increase over last year of £2l. Results:—

Palmeraton N., Last Night An exhaustive inquiry was held tonight as to the running of Equitas, with Oliver up, in the Summer Handicap. The stewards were unable to decide tonight, and adjourned the inquiry till Monday morning oil the course, with the object of permitting the connections supplying further necessary evidence regarding speculation. The owner of Flingot also lodged a complaint against R. Young, who rode Flingot ill The Summer Handicap. This inquiry will also be dealt with on Monday.
