The wharf laborers ceased work on the German mail steamer and a freight steamer because the former was bunk -r----ing alleged non-union coal. The crews replaced the atrikers. Hopes for a settlement in the southern mines l)ave been abandoned till the New Year. The miners' secretary announced that no further meeting* would be held till New Year's Eve. The coal and the gas gave out at Bathurat ten days ago. Since then a supply has been ootained from wood, whlen yielded a rate of 11,700 feet 8-candle-power gas per ton, a email addition of shale bringing the gat up to j 16-oandle power. i STRIKE LEADERS COMMITTED FOtf j TRIAL. i Received December 23, 11.10 p.m, Sydney, Last Night. Bowling, Lewis, Brennan, Burn* and Gray were committed for trial at Newcastle. Bail was granted. The gas supply at North Sydney hu been resumed.
