NEW YEAR CARNIVAL.
THE SEASIDE PICNIC. A meeting of the Seaside Improvement Committee was held yesterday in the secretarys' office, when there were present: Jlr. G. Tisch (chairman), Messrs Bishop, Standish, Gilbert, McLeod and the secretary (Mr. A. L. Humphries). Complete arrangements were made for the New dear's Day picnic, and committees appointed to supervise the various functions. The Union S.S. Co. wrote accepting the committee's terms to run excursions by the steamer Kotuku (1000 tons), and arrangements were made to control ] the trips, etc. A programme for the swimming sports in the harbor was drawn up, and particulars will be found in the advertising columns. The offer of the Taranaki Garrison Band to play during the day for £5 was accepted. It was decided to supply hot water, tea, sugar and miTklree as last year. The train arrangements were considered, and regarded as quite satisfactory. The Department is prepared to carry 'Even more than last year's record crowd ol 4000. The matter of privileges was discussed, and it was decided to charge a f ce of HFs for aIT stands, permits to he obtained from .the secretory. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. Arch. Hooker for setting the ovens in the committee's cottages at the camping ground free of charge, and to all others -*rho have assisted in putting the camp in order. The secretary reported that very Numerous enquiries were being received from inland towns respecting camping facilities, 'terms, etc.
