CHILD DROWNED AT TOKO.
By Telegraph.—Press Aswwiation. Stratford, December 21 A three-year-old son of Jlr. Richards, of ioko, was drowned yesterday afternoon by falling into u creek near his parents' residence.
A NARROW ESCAPE. Napier, December 21. A seaman named Higgias had a narrow escape of losing his life while berthing the Wanaka to-day. Ho became entangled in the mooring lines, and was carried round the barrel of the winch, which was etopped just in time, but not tall the man had two ribs broken and his shoulder badly hurt.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Chri6tchurch, Last Ni"kt •lames Graham, 33 years of age° was admitted to the hospital, evidently suffering from the effects of an irritant poison. He was about to be arrested tm having failed to pay arrears of a maintenance order, when he is supposed to liavo taken nitrate aeid.
