CRASHED INTO A CLIFF.
BOAT'S MIRACULOUS ESCAPE. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyrlgh. -J _, Sydney, December 20.' the Hlawarra Company's steamer Eden armed last night in a badlv smashed condition. The .vessel crashed into a high cliff at Upe St. George during a denso fog. The forward bulkhead saved her from sinking with 100 passengers aboard. Although the forward compartment was flooded, the vessel was able to make port. The forefoot was completely torn away. _ r The cliff loomed out in the fog, and suddenly the vessel was brought up standing, before the order "M speed i ahead" could be carried out. Th c shock threw many passengers off ll "\'r feet. -The boats were got out, and the passengers served with lifebelts but the steamer meanwhile steered off.
