FARM AND DAIRY.

At a meeting of farmers at Jlanaia last Thursday evening two delegates were appointed to confer with other centres re the price of pigs, and ask them to convene a meeting for the purpose of appointing representatives to wait upon Messrs. Dimock and Co. The action of certain factories' in pur chasing inferior butter and branding it as their own product is to be enquired | into by the Agricultural Dcpartme-it. The Hon. T. Mackenzie said on Wednesday afternoon that he would be very glad to see what he could do to protect the industry by stopping this sort of practice. The mission undertaken by Mr. Taranaki Te Ua to Wellington for the purpose of conferring with the Hon. James Carroll concerning the financing of certain natives in this district who desire to commence dairying operations has proved very successful, says the Napier Telegraph. Arrangements have been made for the purchase of at least 400 cows, '220 of which are already in hand. The natives concerned number about 35, and are residents of Omahu, Pakipaki, and Pukahu, and the idea is to divide the cows between them, leaving thejn to develop their operations by their own industry. A cheese factory is to be efeutei in connection with the scheme. 1
