The consecration of the new Bishop of Wniapu (Archdeacon Avcrili, of Cnristchii-eiT, takes place in the Njpiei Cathedral next tMiuoay. A London cable reports the death of Sir William Des Voeux, G.C.M.G., exGovernor oi the Bahamas, Fiji, Newfoundland and Hongkong.
-Mr. Stenhouse'retires ill the end of the eurrent month from the rectorship of the Lawrence High School (Otugo). He is the only surviving teacher "iiuportcil from Scotland by the Provincial tiovornment of Otago. Mr. J. D. Morison on Wednesday handed in his resignation as a member of the Taranaki Education Hoard, this step being rendered necessary by the fact that he would shortly be leaving the district for Te Aroha. In moving that the resignation be accepted, the chairman said he Tery much regretted that circumstances lorced'upon them the 10-s of Mr. Morison, for he had been a mos>t useful, though a quiet, member of the Board, H e h°l>ed sincerely that the Stratford people would be able to fiud as good it member to succeed him, and thought that the Board and the district would lie fortunate if such proved to be the case. Mr. Morton seconded, and said he was very sorry indeed that Mr. Morison was leaving. He had been a very able member. The Stratford district hail been particularly fortunate in its pliiiice of representatives' on the Board, and Mr. Morison was one of the best of them. Tie had always brought to hear, on all matters coining before the Hoard, a perfectly fair and impartial judgment, the result of long and wise experience, and had been of great service to the Board. He sincerely hoped that Mr. Morison would have an opportunity again of throwing in ids lot for the furthering of the cause of education, and promised him a hearty welcome .back to Taranaki should he elect to return. Mr. Morison briefly thanked his colleagues for their kindly expressions, and said that his term as a member of the Board had teen a very pleasant one. He had found ihimself associated with a good class of men, men who had a certain air of independence about them, hut [who still maintained a better feelingl between member and 'member than in any other board or fommitcc on which ' he had had a seat. The resignation was < accepted with regret.
