SEIZED BY A SHARK

AX OFFICER'S FATE. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Sydney, December 15. Mr. Witt, chief officer of the mail liner Plntien, accidentally fell overboard when the vessel was twenty miles off tie coast, on the voyage from New Caledonia to Sydney. A life buoy was thrown to him, and he got hold of it. A boat was then lowered in order to pick him up, but Mr. Witt was evidently taken hold of by a large shark, for he disappeared before the boat reached him.
