BAND CONTEST AT DUNEDIX. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Duiiedin, Last Night. At a public meeting to-night, a proposal to hold a monster band contest next year was approved, and a committee was appointed to carry out the arrangements. It was decided to recommend the committee to make arrangements' for separate contests for brass, pipe, and military bands of Australia and New Zealand. RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS. Nelson, Last Night. Tlio distribution of prizes connected with the Nelson system of Bible teaching in State schools took place to-night. Mr, Justice Dcnniston presiding. The Bishop of Nelson and the clergy of the various denominations were present. The chairman expressed hearty sympathy with the movement, and remarked that the Nelson Bible in Schools Association had found a practical solution of the difficulty of providing religious instruction in State schools. It was stated that ench Plunket nurse cost £2OO a year, , ai)d it was suggested the grant should be at the rate of £SO for each nurse. 1 Sir Joseph Ward said there was £SOO 1 on the Estimates Tor the Karitano Home for Babies, at Duiiedin, where the Plnnket nurses were trained.
