Griffiths and Co. are in receipt of the lollowing market report, from their London principals, Mills and Sparrow, dated October 2UUi, 1909: .Since our last report we have had a very much lower temperature, and heavy rains have been experienced all over the country; in fact, the wcathar has been all against an improvement in trade.
Danish: The Danes had got the quotation rather too high, and lound it necessary to reduce it Oy four kroner. Irish: The supply is very small, anil is now not sutlieieut to make itscii felt. French: The 6upply keeps up wonderfully well for the time of the year and as prices are reasonable buyers arc continuing to keep orders on.
Siberian: Arrivals this week are rather smaller last, amounting to about ' UOOO casks, and we expect from now onwards that we sflall see a further decrease. There has ueen a fair demand for the best quality butters, which show good value alongside other sons. Australian: The Morca wa» ucll up to time, and some of licr ..atterg wee on the market on Monday last. The Afric and Somerset also discharged their cargoes this week. Tho trade, generally speaking, has been very disappointing, there being quite a number in buyers who are not yet ready to start, and a reduction of 2s to 4s on last week's quotations has beeu nee :s----sary in order to introduce the goods. The quality of the butter is very go id, but the color is rather too deep for a number of buyers; especially is this the case with the northern districts, which preler a paler color. However, it is in better to get prices on a reasonable scale so that a good swinging trade will be running when the larger quantities arrive a little later on. We have no doubt that in a week or two's time tne number of buyers for colonial butter will be increased very considerably, and thai trade will be ul a satisfactory mature. There is 'hardly any sale at all ior stored butters at the moment. New Zealand: There has been no further arrival and the Paparoa is the next steamer, due on sth Novemner. The stored butlers on hand still remain almost unsaleable. Argentine: I'lie first arrival of new sciiMMfi butter came to hand this week, and met with good demand, as they consisted chielly of unsalted and the* cohr of the butter is paler than the Australian.
