It is now stated that the prompters approached the Washington authorities with a view to getting the highest sanction to the scheme. . The Department of industries and following cable from the High Commissioner, dated December 4th:— Mutton. —The market is very dull. Average price: Canterbury 3%d, North | Island 3%d. Large supplies' of Dutch mutton arc coming forward, and selling 4d to 4'/od. English ewes are being marketed at 3V!.il. Lamb.—There is dull sale for all lamb and the market is weak. Canterbury averages 3%d, other New Zealand'brands 3%d. The beef market is weak, with Jlo eliiinuc. Prices: New Zealand hinds 3'/jd, fores' 3d. There is a good demand for butter at reduced prices, and buyers arc holding back expecting prices to go lower. Supplies are increasing. The average price for clioicesl. New Zealand is 11 "is, Australian llis. Danish 1245, and Siberian Hills. The cheese market is quiet and prices slightly weaker. The average price for finest New Zealand is 565. The hemp market is quiet, but firm, flood business has been done in New Zealand hemp. The last quotations': (lood to fair on .spot .C2B Ms, fair .027 Ills; January-March shipments, £2Band LV27. .Manila hemp is weaker, as the result of heavy arrivals. The week's output of maiiila is 25.000 bales. Whpal.--A firm market. Supplies ot New Zealand wheat, are practically exhausted.
