INDECENT LETTERS. By Telegraph.—Pres3 Association. Wellington, Monday. William Sheclian, charged on three informations to-day with sending throe letters throtigh the post containing words of an indecent character, was convicted and lined £5 in each case. STREET BETTING. Wellington, Monday. Two charges of street betting were brought against Harry Johnston to-day. The Magistrate decided to treat the offences as one and fined defendant £3O. ALLEGED POSTAL THEFT. j Hamilton, Monday. Before Mr. Loughnan, S.M., a youth of lo years, employed as a telegraph messenger, and also'as part of his duties to clear letter pillar receivers, pleaded guilty to stealing two one pound notes from a postal packet, also to opening a postal packet contrary to regulations and stealing two small sums of money handed in for transmission of telegrams. Accused was committed to the Weraroa Industrial farm until he is 21 years o£
