FARM AND DAIRY.
As showing the remarkable productiveness of some of the land in the Alangorei district, a settler up the Alangorei road laid down a paddock in grass twentyfive years ago, and since then he ha* regularly taken a good crop of hay oil it every season. Since sowing until this year the paddock has had no artificial manure. Cattle have, however, grazed in it after the liay has been cut. This spring the farmer treated the paddock to some basic slag, and there is every promise of a heavy crop of hay. The grasses sown were Italian rye, cowgrass, cocksfoot, and timothy. The Makelnwa Dairy Factory is now turning out •>!) boxes of butter daily. This well-known company intend keeping right up to date, as they have just installed tlie latest combined chum and butter-worker, and will probably go i:i for pastuerisiiig next season. The factory has sixty suppliers, whose tests range from o."> to 4.1. There is every prospect of the present season being an exceptionally good oiic. The recent warm rains have considerably freshened up the grass, which was beginning to look very dry for this time of year, and the milk supply should according continue to increase.
