AMUSEMENTS.

HEWITT'S PICTURES. Hewitt's Pictures were shown in the Theatre Royal last night to a fair house. The programme, mainly a repetition of Tuesday's, was splendidly put on, the illumination being an improvement on the opening night, and bearing out the prediction that with one trial tun the entertainment would make a Dame for itself. The pictures shown were a splendid selection. Amongst the audience were many who had been present at the first exhibition, and these were even more enthusiastic last evening. The chances are that they and a host of friends will be there again on Monday evening, when an entire change Will be presented. Patrons will bear in mind that there will be- a complete change of p. : jnme once a week. The names of .. ■• . i::es for the next exhibition \> ! i'i . ..nlable this evening, and will be advertised in our columns on Monday morning.

PICTURES AT THE Kttl > Hayward's moving picture entertainnieiit held at the Recreation Grounds \. last evening proved a great success. Ihere was a good attendance, and but for the tti T tcning nature of the weatlh«r the cro.'.d doubtless have been larger. Con^iik.ing that the display was in the nature of a trial tlie arrangements were good. Tlij screen on which the pictures were thrown was rather far removed from the terrace on which the ' - Imlk of the' audience sat. This will be remedied next week and the distance reidueed l>y more than half. An excellejt light was obtained, throwing up the pictures in a clear and well-defined manner, Tlie orchestra engaged to supply the music was present, but owing to the dampness of the atmosphere the stringed instruments could not be tuned. However, a suitable programme of music mas supplied on tflie piano by a member of the company. A delightful programme of varied films was thrown on the large screen, many of the items being star pictures, including the "following:— "Mr» f herjv love in animals," "Forgotten,'' ''The treasures of his ancestors," •■Snowball,' "Blind against his will," ■• The human sacrifice" (a wonderful pic-t-ire depicting a huihan sacrifice in the Ikuidicnl day- of Britain),. "A ride : ' through Bombay," "Tlie White Chief" (i film giving ■* delightful idea of the and customs of the-Indians in the A i!d West),. Next week Haywards intend putting on another first-class programme, an efficient orchestra w.tl Assist. For the following week a bene'it v performance will be given to an injured member of the local fire brigade, full v particulars of which will appear later.
