In beautiful weather the annual hack meeting of the Waitara Racing Club was held on the club's course at Sentry Mil! yesterday. Notwithstanding the very strong counter attraction of "People's Day" at the Taranaki Show, the attendance was. if anything, bettor than last year, anil included a grralcr proportion of the fair sex than usual. Tlie racing throughout the day was interesting, and uumarred bv accident or protest. The whole of the arrangemenu worked with the greatest smoothness, thanks to the businesslike management of the secretary and officials. Speculation was brisk throughout the day, the sum of £'2595 passing through the tote, compared with £2406 last yfar, But for the fact that only three hnrses saddled up for the last event, bringing the average down considerably, tlie tote figures would have shown an advance of at least £350 on last year. *siv bookmakers were licensed, and appeared to do brisk business. The Waitara Band played an enjoyable programme of music on the lawn under the baton of Mr. T. MeConnell, and the entering arrangements were in the hnnds of Mr. Thomson, of New Plymouth. Results;—
