On the motion ol' Crs. McCluggage a:iu Anderson, the engineer was requested to schedule all "thirds" lor expenditure on roads under the Council's control where work is necessary. It was resolved to write the Commissioner of Crown Lands requesting that "thirds'" in the Whangamomona road loan area be pledged for special rates on said loan, It was resolved, in reply to Mr. J. Wiggins' letters of 2Srd August and 27 th September, that he - be asked to submit to the Council a definite claim, with full particulars of the loss he alleges he has incurred. Air. Bennet waited on the Council with regard to the Whitianga road, which he wished to have opened for wheel iratlic, and it was resolved that the remainder of the metal on the South end of Whitianga road be spread on the bad plaoe occasioned by a spring on the road near the bridge,
it was further resolved that the thirds on section 2 and half the thirds on section 11 be scheduled for expenditure on the Whitianga road between ue Jlauku and the Kohouratahi junctions in terms of Mr. Bennett's request. It was decided to inform Aopke Bros, that the Council could not see its way to comply with their request for compensation in connection with the loss on their contract.
It was resolved to advise Mr.' Foley that ratepayers in arrear in connection with the Brewer-Kirai road will -be proceeded against, and provided same are recovered, the special rate struck for the current year will be .correspondingly re-1 duced. It was resolved to inform Mr. J. Diggins that the Auditor - General ims vetoed the system referred to- in hi»> teller for meeting special rates; ami that with regard to the other portion of his letter he be advised in the same terms as Mr. i'oley. Mr. Diggins' letter of November in reference to the Brewer road was referred to the enginer. It was rtsolved to thank the Kltham County Council for its invitation to be represented at a trial of the Basham patent highway; at the same time expressing regret that none of the councillors will 'be able to attend. The tender of I'. J. Houlihan was' accepted lor contract No. 14, metalling one mile of Brewer road; and that ol W. Abbott for the erection of county buildings and strongroom. In accordance witli his notice, Councillor McCluggage moved that a sum ot il'M) be voted to the Junction road from the l'oliokura. special fund account. Lie motion was carried.
In accordance with notice given, Cr. Jones moved a resolution in regard to Brewer road finance, which was carried. The engineer was instructed to arlange with the contractor to put a few yards of metal on the Brewer road within the loan area j the cost to ue charged to the loan.
It was resolved to write to the Minister for Public Works for a further sub sidy on account of the £3BOO loan, explaining that the last subsidy of .CI 100 lias now been all expended, and the loan expenditure is still in aavance of the subsidy. The engineer was instructed to inspect and report to next meeting on the Makahu road north and Arnold road bridges. A special order was instituted for the raising ol' a loan of .t3oU for the M'.ingaowhala road, and it was decided that if provisional consent thereto is received within fourteen days of next meeting, the engineer be instructed to call tenders' to close at next meeting. Accounts as read were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned until 22hd December.—l'ost.
