A MINING HERO.
REVIVES THE KING'S MEDAL. By Cable.—Press Assncis tlnn.—Copyright Received 27, 5.5 p.m. London, November 47. The King has awarded a firnt-clasi Edward medal to Joseph Davis, the Bendigo mine hero. The Gazette states that the actio# was exceptionally brave, as Davis knew an explosion was Imminent.
At the Consolidated mine, Bendigo, OB rtiily 18tl>, three miner#, named D«m, Darcv and Allen, were wm-kine sinking a shaft. Two shots were nut in and the men ascended to the nlntifomi above. Ah Allen readied the platform he milled his footing find fell to the bottom. Instnntlv Davis rushed down the ladder, despite the fact that the charges wew due to explode at anv moment. He found Allen and dragged him about live feet when the first charge exploded. Hn debris, however, was carried in the fpposltc direction. T)iivi« then endeavored to get in a sale plaee for the second etplosion, which immediately occurred. Relief was sent, down, and both were found olive. Allan had a broken but both were unhurt By the blast.
