Mr. T. Y. Scddon, M.l'., arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last night. Mr. F. JJ. Elliot, of Awakino, lias resigned liis commission as a Justice of the Peace. Constable Cullen, formerly of i\ew Plymouth, has been appointed actingdetect ive,'and is to be moved to Auckland. Mr. John U. Chattel-ton, lately of the' D.S.C., Auckland, is on a visit'to New Plymouth previous to taking up his new duties us manager of the boot depaitment of the D.1.C., Ohristchureh. Mr. \V. Dempster, manager of the Levin Co-operative Dairy Company, who has been appointed assistant Government grader at New Plymouth, vice Mr. | Hansen, takes up his duties 7iext week.

and will be in New Plymouth till .Monday night, when he leaves by the Rarawa for Auckland. Prior to Mr. F. B. Bell's departure tor Auckland by the llarawa on Thursday evening, he was presented by Mr. X. K. MacDiarmid, manager of the local branch [of the Bank of New South Wales, with a case of pipes and a dressing-case, the gift of the stall. Mr. 11. 11. Preshaw takes' Mr. Bell's place on the stall.
Mr. Will Crooks, M.P., the British Labor leader, and Mrs. Crooks, Mayoress of Poplar, were tendered a civic welcome in the concert chamber of the Wellington Town Hall last night. There was (states a press wire) a large audience. The Mayor (Dr. Newman) presided, ,md welcomed Mr. Crooks and his wife to Wellington, speaking in appreciation of their humanitarian work in England. The late Mr. P. Drcwett, whose -.einains were interred in Te ilenui cemetery yesterday, was accorded a Masonic fun'eriil. The' Rev. (luy was the officii!t-! ir.g minister, and the Masonic funeril rites were read by Wor. P.M. Bro. E. Chiitterton. The pall-bearers were Urns. R. C. Hughes', W. Coad, fi. (,'rill'iths, ami K. C'hatterton, Mr. .1. \V. Boon representing the Methodist Church. The late l!ro. Drcwett was a Mason of 25 years' standing, having lirst joined Wnodliall Lodge St. John, No. 305', near Glasgow. He lias been a member ot the Mount Kgniont Lodge for about 14 years.
