LONDON MARKETS. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, November 24. Copper—On spot, £5!) 2s lid, three months £OO 3s Od; electrolytic, £O2. The fall is due to heavy selling, following on a weakness in America. Tin—On spot £l4l 17s fld; three months £144. Lead, £l3 2s Od. Tallow—At the tallow auctions 571 casks were offered and 181 sold. Prices are unchanged. Wheat—The American visible supply of wheat is 58,186,000 bushels. Wool—There is spirited competition at full opening rates. LONDON WOOL SALES. '
Wellington, Thursday. The High Commissioner's cable, dated London, November 24, says the wool sales have commenced. The offerings arc chiefly Australian merinos, and there is very brisk demand in the market. New Zealand wools catalogued comprise 15,500 bales, mostly sliprs. The trade is good, manufacturers require supplies, and the future prospects are good. The market values are fully equal to thO3C of the last sales.
The quotations for Now Zealand wools cabled by the Commissioner at the close of the London sales, on October 2, were super merinos Is l'/ 8 d to Is 3'/.d, medium merinos 11 %i to Is Id, inferior merinos Od to lid, line crossbreds Is 2d to Is 4'/ 3 d, medium crossbreds lid to Is 3d, coarse crossbreds Od to is.
Messrs. Dafgety and Co., Ltd., report having received tihe fololwing cable message from their London house, under date the 23rd inst.:—" Wool sales opened with a very large attendance of buyers'. Competition is animated and a good selection is oH'oring. Prices for merino wools are ruling at par to 5 per cent, lower. Crossbred wools are unchanged, but for coarso greasy crossbreds the change, if ?uy, is 111 sellers' favor."
i'lic Xew Zealand Loan and Mercantile, Agency Company, Ltd., have, .received tlie following cablegram from tlieir London house, under date 23rd in»'t.: '"There was a good attendance at the opening luf tlie sales to-dny, competition by | Home, Contineulal and American buyers being active. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. As compared with last, sales closing rates, prices are lower about par to 5 per cent, for merino, and higher about par to 5 per cent, for crossbred." L. A. XOLAN AND CO.'S KEPORI. Poultry.—On Saturday ivc liad a larfjf entry, about 300 birds being penned. Prices were slightly easier than previous week. We quote: Hens Is 2d to 2s 3d, according to age and condition; cockerels Is 5(1. Is (id, Is lid, roosters Is (Id to 2s Id, chickens 4d to lOd, ducks Is 4d to 2s Id; duckling!), two weeks 9d, three weeks Is Id to Is 3d, four weeks Is lid to 2s hi.
In t lie mart we disposed of a large catalogue of furniture and plants at satisfactory prices. Fruit.—This is still in small supply.
