They recommended dealing out the drain along Mr. Meal's frontage, as well as the outlet to Mr. Harford's, and cleaning out Mr. Taylor's creek to B. Dombroski's house, as well as cleaning the outlet at Dombroski's.

BREACH OF BY-LAWS. Upon the motion of .Messrs. Laureuc: and Jones it was decided to take proceedings against Mr. Curtis for caring logs on the Bristol road on waggons with tyres narrower than provided by the by-laws. MAN'A ROAD BliltlXJE. The engineers (.Messrs. Orbell and Alackay) submitted a schedule showiig the cost of the recently- erected Ma la road bridge, 20 feet span, in concrete. The actual cost of the bridge asi designed was £193 13s 2d, lilli'ig and metalling £2l 4s !W, and six yards of extra concrete required to be used owing to the unexpected poor foundation cost £2O Bs, making a total of £241 5s lid. Krom this had to be deducted £lO 9s 7.1 for timber sold, etc., leaving the actu 1 cost of the bridge, at £230 10s 4d. Ti answer to Mr. Young, Mr. Orbell said nis original estimate of £IBO had been for a bridge with wooden decking, whillt the bridge had a concrete top. Mr. Orbell also stated that lie had supervised the work as closely as though he himself had been the contractor. The estimate of £2OO for this concrete bridge was given verbally to Mr. Young in answer to his question at a meeting of the board, and was an approximate estimate only, given at a few moments' notice. Mr. Young severely blamed the aginccr for his under-estimate of the cost. BRISTOL ROAD.

The engineer submitted an estimate for bridge and road work proposed to be undertaken by Upper Bristol road settlers to give them a shorter route to Inglewood. He estimated that the 220 ft suspension bridge necessary would cost £BSO, formation and metalling, etc., bringing his total estimate to £1514, exclusive of cost of land required to be taken, raising the loan, advertising, or surveys. This bridge would carry seven tons dead weight, but he would recommend closing it against cattle traffic. A concrete bridge would cost £IBOO. After some discussion of the scheme it was decided to take no further action pending the receipt of a petition from the ratepayers concerned. DA\'is ROAD DEVIATION. Mr. Orbell advised to proceed with the Davis road deviation, which would give a grade of one in 10 instead ol one in 14 formerly proposed. The deviation would be no more expensive, perhaps cheaper, for this was a siding, and the stiller grade amis through a block cutting.—lt was decided that the Board should inspect the. site of the proposed deviation. GENERAL. Mr. V. M. Stnndish wrote asking that the pipes lying outside his grade for some time be used for the culvert for which they were intended, so that he would be able to have his wool carted out.—The culvert had been attended to. The Waitara West Road Board forwarded £7 10s rates on Everett road, for expenditure by this Board.—To be expended. The Treasury notified that the loan of £3OO wus now available for expenditure on the Wortley, Davis l and York roads. Mr. P. Stackurski's oll'er to buy old wire on Davis, road was accepted. Mr. A. Schrader's application lor permission to graze his cows on Windsor road for two hours daily, promising to watch them, was refused.

The Board confirmed the resolution passed by way of special order on 2nd October last, making and levying a spe--1 cial rate of a penny in the £. on the value of all rateable property in Norfolk road west special rating district. The action of the chairman and Mr. Corkill in authorising some metalling on the Toe Toe road to absorb the balance of the loan money was confirmed.
