PERSONAL.
The death occurred somewhat suddenly yesterday of Air. Henry Revel), an old tettler, at the ripe age of 77 years. Mr. Joe Ward, whose condition lias been causing considerable anxiety to his relatives for several days, was slight'}better yesterday. The death is reported by cable of Consuclo Duchess of Manchester and mother of the present Duke of Manchester. She was a daughter of Signor Antonio Iznaga de Vallc, of Louisiana, America. Mr. Herbert James Sol,-, a well-known and popular member of the local railway staff, died at his residence on Saturday after a lingering illness. Mr. Sole was the youngest son of the late William Sole, and was 39y««rs of age. lie joined the railway service when lie was Hi years of age, and worked up tu the position of first-class guard, being stationpd for some time at Wanganiii. At the time of the Puk" of York's visit to Xew Zealand the kite Mr. Sole s-unVred paralysis of the eye as the result of two or three days' duty without sleep or rest. The paralysis gradually spread, and led t.> the illness which brought about h s death. "Dot" Sole, as he was familiarly called, was ever an obliging and an able public servant. He leaves a widow and four children.
