CHORAL SOCIETY' CONCERT. A very successful practice of an orchestra- musi.si.iiig 0 f the most capable instrumentalists thai can lie got lo gethcr in lhe town was held on W.duosday under the condurlorsbip of .\i r . Francis Cornwall in preparation for the coming concert of the Xew I'lvmoulh Choral Society. The public is to be given an opportunity of hearing a pari of one of Haydn's beautiful symphonies, and although it is not expected to ilo the work as in the larger towns when the full complement of instrumentalists can lie obtained, Mr. Cornwall is of opinion a very creditable rendering will be given. Symphony is' absolute!? the cream of orchestral'work, and as'it is many years since it has been-attempted in Xew Plymouth, it is hoped that the effort to give ua the best will be appreciated. Mr. Cornwall is also advancing his claim as a composer, ami is submitting another of his own compositions (a ballet for strin'g and woodwind instruments). The choral numbers include a cradle song, humorous and other part songs, and choruses. Solos will be sung hy several of our leading vocalists, and altogether a splendid musical treat may be anticipated. Those who missed the Choral Society's! first con-ert should not fail to be pre- j s'onl on this occasion. Those who were I lit Iho lirst concert will, we think, certainly be at, the second.
