A Loudon cable states that the Hon. W. Hall-Jones, High Commissioner for New Zealand, who lias been ill, is progressing satisfactorily.
Constable Rolands was last evening presented by 'Ms local friends with, a silver hot-water kettle to mark his approaching marriage. The presentation was made liy Mr. Harry Linn, William Joseph Green died at Toko on the 12t.1t iiistmit. Deceased, wlio had reached the ago of (ill years, was one of the earliest Toko settlers, and leaves a widow and grown-up family to mour.-i their loss.
In reply to a wire sent bv the Hon. C. 11. Hills to Sir John Logan Campbell, congratulating that gentleman on the attainment of his !«rd birthday, the following characteristic letter, .written by himself, came to band: "Father Time still keeps sharpening his scythe, before which I must lie mown down; truly lie is in no hurry." Tiie death occurred at Palmerston on Friday of Mrs. W. Jordan, wife of Mr. \Y. .lonian, of Inglewood, Taranaki, at the age of 7;l years. The late Mrs. •Jordan came to ".Yew- Zealand with her husband nearly lifty years ago, audi settled in the South, Island.
