AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE
A "LIVE" TRAMCAR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. I Christchureh, November 15. A number of tram conductors returning to Christchureh from the Riccarton racecourac, on a double-decked car on Saturday, had an unpleasant experience. The arm of the electric pole, near Sockburn, had bent under the strain anil caused a short circuit. The trolley wir e fused, giving out a uig llame, aiid the car became "alive." The men on the top had the presence of mind to stand still, ami away from metal, till Inspector Richardson, with rubber gloves was able to free the car of the wire. 'Had there been any passengers in the car and a panic ensued, .and had anyone touched the metal railings, the results would have been serious/ '
A CONDUCTOR INJURED. Christchurcli. November 15. Frederick Ashton, conductor on a New Brighton tram, was badlv injured in attempting to prevent a passenger from getting off a car while in motion. He overbalanced himself and his head struck a pole. Ashton's skull was fractured, but he is progressing favorably.
