EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS.
STAMPEDE IN WELLINGTON THEATRES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A violent earthquake occurred hero at 8.30 tonight, causing considerable consternation. People in the theatres became very much alarmed, and most of them hurriedly left at the Opera House. There was quite a stampede, the passages being quickly blocked. Some persons fainted. The Post Office bell started ringing, and some windows were broken. A lamp in a house in Kent Terrace was upset (Did tie bedroom burned.
AT NELSON. Nelson, Last Night. A severe earthquake shock was fel here to-night, which lasted about hal a minute.
AT NEW PLYMOUTH. The shock was felt at New Plymouth the hour being 9.30, and lasted aboul 30 sees.
