(From Our Own Correspondents.) STRATFORD. 'Die holiday passed nil' here under fmorable conditions. The sale of work in aid of the child widows of India went off fairly well in Stratford, and it is rumored, althou,"'u tbv rumor lacks confirmation, that on s'me future occasion somebody intend* doing something for the hard-up widows and children of New Zealand. At the last meeting of the Borough Council several veiled allusions wenmade about some great event that had happened, and that the services of the Council's chief architect would be required in designing something in the shape of a cradle made out of valuable metal. RAHOTU. The Kahotu Rifle Club's picnic and competitions were held on 9th Novcm>rr. There was a full attendance, and the -weather nearly all one could desire. Ihe scores put up were very consistent, ine club at this meeting made a presentation to Mr. T. Fleming in recognition of his kindness in permitting them the use of the range. The. pre" scntation took the form of a silver teanot with suitable inscription, and was presented by Captain Colmer. At the picnic the ladies provided refreshment, am, the young folks had a few quiet Staines, on the whole having a really enjoyable time. OAONCt. The annual Sunday school gathering was held in Mr. Malcolm's paddock on Juesday last. A goodly number of children left Rahotu for the picnic in Mr T. P. Ilughsou's waggon, and wero joined at Oaonui by the scholars there. The parents of children from both Rahotu and Oaonui were fairly well represented, and quite a pleasant day was 'pent. Ihe Waitara Lawn Tennis Club opened its season on Tuesday, there being a large number of members present. The courts, which were in cx-'C-l'dit order, were busily engaged all Hie afternoon. Tea was 'served bv lb-la-lies.
