HOMING.
The first race tinder the auspices of the New Plymouth East Flying Club down from Auckland (a distance of lit! miles) this season eventuated last week. The birds were sent North by th e Ilarawa on Thursday last, and were consigned to the care of Mr. 11, Stowell, lion, secretary of lh e Auckland Flying Club, who kindly liberated Cu.<-m, sending the following telegram: "Birds liberated 6 a.m., morning clear, X.W. wind." The placed birds arrived about 11.13 a.m., only seconds separating the first three to their respective lofts, the times comparing favorably -with previous results from the Northern city, the judge's verdict being as follows:—' W. H. Boulton's Blue Stone, shr Kiiiru loscc, 1; C. R. Wright's Arist, ohr 13min 20s.ee, 2; 11. 3. Moverlcy's Bruce, ohr 13m in 4.*>ec, 3; 11. McC'ahey's Airship, oh,- 33mm 30sec, 4. The twentieth race flown this scaso.i by the New Plymouth East Flying Club took place yesterday from Marton, a distance of 104 miles, nine members sending forty birds. The day was unfavorable for good times to be recorded. A strong north-west wind prevailed and prevented the birds from making rapid progress, the result being as follows: H. J. Moverley's Spray, 3hr 42min. 1; A. Lovegrove's Awaliuri, 31ir 42miii o'Vic, 2; W. 11. Boulton's Shamrock, .'lhr 45min Usee, 3; Yv". Glceson's King. 3hr 4omin 50sec, 4.
