Ui'J.MM; UF TJIF SEASON. ; There was giuriou* weather yesterday , afteinoon for the oll'icial opening of the j New riyniouth Bowling Club's season, ami the attendance of bowlers was larger than ever, whilst there was also a huge gathering of lady friends. The timehonored match between teams picked by 1 the president and vice-president was .played, the "vice" team winning after | a most enjoyable series of games 011 an : almost perfect green. The ladies, under I the presidency of Mrs. (J. Crey, served a bountiful afternoon tea. The pavilion | had been gaily decorated by Mr. 11. N. ' i'ohhvatcr, the Hags being lent by the i late president, Mr. K. Cock. Amongst j the visitors present were several visiting members from neighboring clubs. Mr. Ceo. Crey, the president, carried 1 out for the Jirst time his presidential ; duty of declaring the season open. In j doing so lie referred to the club's exccli lent linancial position, despite last j year's heavy expenditure 011 the build--1 ings and green, and he promised to en- ! deavor to continue the policy of expending all surplus funds in improving the dub's properly. The season opened wuh the green in perfect order, thanks to the care bestowed upon it by the custodian. Mr. Alldriilge. under the supervision of Mr. F. \\\ Mall, to whom members owed a deep debt of gratitude. The membership of the club stood at KM), and the limit was 110. lie desired to thank the ladies who had during the past year assisted in entertaining and in the various club fuuetious of u social nature, and iu this 1 connection he would like particularly to mention -Mrs. lv. Cock, wife of the retiring president., who had often at the shortest notice, and at groat, personal inconvenience, attended to the matter of entertaining. lie aso tendered thanks to the late president for his excellent services to the club. Jn conclusion, the president spoke highly of the good fellowship existing amongst meml>ers last seas'on.
