TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") The Canterbury J.C. Metropolitan Meeting will he continued to-day, the principal events being the Derby Stakes, and Metropolitan Handicap. lliere will be races at Ellereiie, Waverley, and Taratahi on Tuesday, oth November. Taranaki "sports" should be at the Waverley meeting, where good fields and interesting racing should furnish a good day's sport. Jockeys S. Lindsay and R. Derret*, have each ridden three New Zealand Cup winners.

To-day's Derby will be contested by Cvmbifonn, Guinnforte, Cronstadt, Elysian, Tawhaki. St. Felix, Taskmaster, Full Sail, and Kilwinning. Elysian promises to start a warm favorite. R. Hatch will ride Cronstadt. Charlie Cochrane will be up on Wainri, \fulga Bill, Loehguard, and St. Tony at Waverley to-morrow. Silken Ttein is in t'p-iop form at present, and ber owner intends to win all he can while the Caraeen mare is goin r well. Her next start will be in th<Taraua Hack Hurdles at Taratahi.

Moloch finished very fast in the Mastrrtou Cnp. making an interesting finish with Lady Medallist. Moloch should not be long in ram ill!* a winning bracket, and the Manner ichling will probably bo given a run at Carterton. Nine horses have paid up for the Waverlev Cup. Including Bismarck, who showed a good turn of speed at Otaki. A good field should line up for the Flying Handicap. The Hawera horse, engaged are reported to be very forward, Mulga Bill ami Red Wing showing best on the tracks. Te Ttotl is going well, and should be much benefited by recent racing. Timothy, has been doing ver/ nicely 011 the local tracks. Waiari is going well, and will be rid den by C. Cochrane in the Wjlson and Jackson Stakes at Wavcrley.

fiolden Loop, who showed promising I form as a two-year-old, will be taken down to Wavcrley to-dav(o contest the Morton Memorial Handicap. R. Barlow has the eolt in good nick. New Zealand Cup form is generally a poor guide to picking the winner of the Metropolitan Handicap. Apn won the latter race last year after failing in the Cup, Ringdove and All Red filling the places. Downfall, Grand Slam, ind Uhlando were unplaced. On Masterton show-ins Splash docs not appear to f>c crashed with weight in the Belvedere Hack Handicap at Carterton. full Rate been racing a bit big lately, but is rapidly running into form." Highden's track performances do not suggest Mm as an earlv winner, but ho will be given a run at, \Vaveriey. Captain Bell has been accepted for at Wavcrley as well as at Taratalii for to-morrow's races. I Shannon Lass has not been show-inf I anv brilliant track work at Wanganui lalelv, but generally does better when [ the colors are up,
