BOWLING.

FiTZROY BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB. The official opening of the above club took place on Thursday last. There was a large gathering of members and friends, also visiting howlers from tlw Jnglewood and New Plymouth Clubt. The president {Mr. A. Lealand), in openini' the grei'n, exjiressed liis pleasure at sering such a large gathering, and also I congratulated the members on the .spk'udid condition of the bowling green and . grass tennis court. He believed that the ! bowlers would have as fast and true a green as any in Taranaki, and he was 1 sure that no club pussessed a keener lot of players. During last season the bowlers had played more matches with other clubs than any other club in Taranaki, and although they were often beaten, they were always eager to take on the next. Ife believed that this year they would excel la.st year's record. Mrs. Lealand having thrown the "jack." the green was declared open. Mr. Gray, president of the New Plymouth dun, congratulated the club on the condition of the green, and expressed a hope thai the kindly feeling'between the two clubs would continue in the future as in the pnst. During the afternoon the la.lies dispensed refreshments, which were much appreciated. Four rinks took part in the jrante. the result being as under: -- Avcrv. Goldwator, f'hivcrs.
