Replying to a question iu the House of Representatives, the PostmasterGeneral stated that the peuny-a-word cable suggested by Mr, HennikerHcatoii did not appear to be practicable. The must immediate prospects of a re-dic-tion was to a minimum of 8d u word for deferred cable mesages and a shilling u word for such niesuges in plain language. The scheme of bringing Australia and I Britain into communication by wireless stages was considered to he an engineering possibility, but whether it would be i an efficient substitute for the cable was open to grave doubt.
