MANAWATU SHOW.

By Telegraph. —Press Association. Palmerston North, Thursday. Tiio Manawatu spring show was formally opened liv Lord I'lunket at noon today. His Excellency was accompanied My' Laiiy Plnnket. and there was also present a strong contingent of Parliamentarians, who arrived by the express train from Wellington. The weather was lieautifnily fine to-day and the attendance very large. The minor classes were all judged yes. terdav, and to-day all live stock and dogs are being judged. None of the classes were, completed at the time of writing, hut the principal winners so far are:— Shorthorns. Mr. A. W. William.;. Hnwke's Bay, scooped tlio pool, taking six firsts and two champions. Herefords.—Mr. G. F. Moore. Wangt,mii, was the principal prizetaker. He was closely followed, however, by Mr. 0. Wheeler, Halcombe. Mr, A. J. Stone Wigg, Wairarapa, was awarded a first and second prize. Ayrshire Classes.—Messrs. Slack Bros. Palmerston, took three firsts and a champion: Mr. W. B. Ilarre, Feilding. a champion and reserve champion; and Messrs. E. Eagle, P. Noonan, J. A. Meßae, C. Clarke, and S. R. Lancaster divided the honors. The judging of the entire horse classes is not completed yet. The delay is owing to the examination by the officers of tile Veterinary Department as to hereditary unsoundness. It is evident it will have to be done a day prior to judging. The only championship award so far is to Mr. .1. D. Mitchell's draught eo.t Tlereigo, who beat Mr. E. Short's imported colt flold Measure. Air. Shoit scored heavily in female classes with his importel draught mares. In the sliepp classes (.he champion Southdown ram was shown bv Messrs. Ellis Bros., of Rangitikei. Mr. S. 11. Lancaster took six firsts in the same classes, Messrs. Ellis llros. taking two frsls.

Lincoln*. The principal prize-Inkers were Missrs. \V. l'errv and W. IT. Wvbournc. Mr. K. Short -.eoowd the pool in the ''oninev classes. Mr, S. I!. (From Our Special I'eporter.) Palmerston North. Last Night. Tile weather is gloriously fine for the show, and as a consequence there were ricord attendances yesterday and to nay. The chief features yesterday .were ring events, which this' year included motor-driving competitions. In the latter there were larse entries. The miblie Hiool work section k very successful though the home industries section is rot, so interesting a feafure as usua*. I'he shnir of pigs numcricallv is stronger than heretofore. The dog' classes are well tilled. as is the poultry section. Tn dairy cattle there arc good entries, parlictilarlv in Jersovs.
