ASH BURTON SHOW.

Ashhurton, ] Mi t \,jgi,t--■lhe Ashbiirtou Agricultural ami Pastoral Association's thirty-second annual show of livo stock, produce, etc., opened to-day m ideal weather. Entries were '2Oll „, excess of last year, the increase being ehiclly in horses, sheep, and cattle in the order given. The outstanding tcature of the show was' the excellent horse exhibits, which, taken as a whole, are considered 'by judges in a position to advance an authoritative opinion, to be the finest ever shown in Canterbury, perhaps excepting tile metropolitan. The I
sheep classes were well filled, hut, with he exception of Border and English Leicestcrs nnil fat. lamb classes, competition was' not very strong, although the quality was uniformly good. Cattle and pigs were well up to' previous standard, but competition was also limited. Produce and home exhibits ,c ,de an attractive display. Although competition from sources outside the county was stronger than ever before, the bulk of the prizes were secured by local breeders and exhibitors. The prospects for the scemd dav urn «v™llm>t
»«) are excellent. MARLROROUGH SHOW. Blenheim, Lust Night. People's ,l„ y at (He A. and P. show to-day was attended l.y over a thousand people, mid in all respects was .of a' record character. The horses were a strong class, and the judges praised thdraughts, carriage horses and troop horses as e,,i,al to anything i n X nv Zealand, and desvrving of a better snp. , ply of sires.
The jubilee festivities will he continued in Pieton to-morrow PAUIEIiSTON SHOW. Palucrstou N., Last Night. J here was glorious weather and n large attendance for the first (lav of the Manawatu spring show. To-dav was somewhat of an off day, as the fudging was confined to minor' classes such as |"gs'. and poultry. The entries' for nio-s are larger than for the last few year's, and there is a tine show of llerkshires, l orkshires and Devon*. Local breeders were most successful. The poultry entries are small, hut of good quality. Mr Cameron's Scnoritu won jthp. .'jfciden Hunters out of over thirty competitors. I'he same rider had a s'pill on'Lovell' when the latter looked a probable wii-. iier. He was nninjurcd. The motor-car driving competitions, included for the first, time, proved a great success. Tomorrow the Governor opens the show officially, and thirty members of Parliament will he present. The Judging of sheep, cuttle and horses takes place on Thursday.
WFLLIXCITOX'S \EW TOST OFFICE. Wellington, Wednesday. [ The successful tenderers for the new Oeneral Post Office in Wellington are J. and A. Wilson, who were contractors for the Public Trust Office. The price is just below ClOfl.nnn. The whole of the elevations are to lie constructed in Tolaga Hay (Xelson) stone.
