M(.'Andrew and ('o. was burnt to the ground. The building and plant were insured in the North Hritisb ;uul Mercantile Insurance Company for about £3,00(1, but the ex•ut amount is not known. The secretary of tlw company estimates the loss at about Forty men will be thrown out of employment. The origin of the lire is not known. When discovered by the manager, George McAndrew, it had a tirni hold. The Paeroa volunteer (ire brigade rendered valuable service-, in saving the houses in the vicinity of the mill.
