WAITARA. I The Ivy Assemblies 'held their final euchre party on Thursday evening last. There was a large attendance. The lirst prize was won by -Miss Nita Hellier -and the second by Miss B. Mortensen. Ttic successful gentlemen were Messrs L. Tate and K Hawkins. The special trophies presented by .Mr. li. Fraser and Mr. Stewart were won by .Mrs. Cossar and iir. F. Hawkins. The prizes were presented by ilr. It. Tate (president of tlie Wiatara ljowiug Club). Mr. Jiuchanan. on behalf of the club, returned thanks to the organisers of the assemblies for their kindness in assisting the building fund. The net amount for the season amounted to £lO, which w II greatly assist the club in the building of their new shed. After supper dancing was proceeded with the music being .supplied by Miss liadley, Messrs. lUissell and 1). Bateaelor, and Misses Sampson and Xicholls. The ladder tournament for competi-t-'on amongst tile members of the local Howling Club started on Thursday last. About forty members are taking part in the competition. Our local cricketers gave a poor dis play in the cup match against Carring(oll road on Thursday last. W'e all Hope the club will make a better stand on Thursday next.

WAREA. The annual general meeting of the Tarea Public Ilall Committee was held on Saturday night.' Mr. T. Julian, senr., presided. Tile balance-*heet was read and showed a very satisfactory position. Several accounts'were passed' fur payment. Election of ollicers for the cii suing year resulted:—Chairman. Mr. T. Julian, senr. (re-elected>; sub-commit-t"c. Messrs \V. IT." Julian, J. Millar, T. Revell were elected a committee to fice to the fencing of the hall grounds. Messrs James liurgess and Thomas Julian were appointed to sign cheques.

A meeting of tile School Committee viis held in the school on Sn.tnnl.v niyhl. Mi-, a. p. Jones |'; was decided to get -the leak in tile sculicry repaired. Accounts were passed for payment to the extent of Cl2 12s. Tile -iib-committce was .instructed to engage a mail for a day to clear up .the school '/rounds. Messrs J. and A. Dueker, our loc.il Miwinillers, have gone in for a motor car, this being the first car in the district.

The ordinary monthly meeting of trio directors of the local dairy factory wai held 011 Thursday last. It was decided to start cheescmaking on or about November Bth. The butter made up to that date has been sold for lid per 1!,. It fljas decided to consign the chees.! through Mr. Newton King. The weather this last weelt has been a'most like summer, the days being ver/ hot, and on Saturday night and SundaV morning slight showers of warm raii\ fell. The grass is now looking vcrr green, and the quantity of milk is increasing every day at the factory. A return cricket match, Warea v. Oknto, was played at Okato on Saturday. The day was fine and the visitiag 'earn had a good day's sport, although tiu'.v only took six men to play agaii<>t Okato's eleven. They defeated Okato 70 runs to 47.

The tenders fo r digging the new ritle butts on Mr. \Y. Revell's property closed on Saturday night. There were only two tenders and Mr. Ray Julian's wa« accepted.

rUXGAREIIU. The ladies' ball was held in the liail on Wednesday night last. There wqs a fairly large gathering, visitors being there from all parts of the coast. The night, was a very wet one and this kept a large number away.' The ladies had decorated the hall to perfection. At ii..diiiglit a good supper was handed round and very much appreciated. The music was supplied by Mr. Knowles and extras were played by Jfesdanies Harrison and Cassio.

The co-operative store was started last week iiy the C'apo Egmont Dairy Company. A large amount of goods has come to hand and is being unpacked. .Mr. Kcasbery is in charge. The cheese factory is installing another vat in the factory, and there :? talk of enlarging the factory for next year.
