A letter from an Australian resident at Manila states that when the Harlow arrived Captain Bruce reported in reference to the supposed Waratah. He said he saw a large steamer carrying two mast head lights and one red side-light. A tremendous amount of smoke wm issuing from her. He called the chief engineer's attention to it. They came to the conclusion that the steamer was afire and was returning to Durban for assistance. bile watching her a huge (lash occurred, throwing llames 300 feet in the air. \\ few seconds later there were much larger explosions. WJien they cleared all the liglits uf the steamer had disappeared. There were bush fires along the coast, at the time. Hie chief officer was of opinion that the flauiex were from these fires, but they could not understand the disappearance of Hie steamer lights. She had not signalled for help before the explosion occurred. I'roui the terrific explosion they were of opinion that all aboard were killed instantly.
