The Clifton colliery, in the lllawarra district, has been idle for some time owing to the miners refusing to work while two men who refused to pay lines inflicted by the .Miners' Union for alleged breaches'of the rules were retained.
Summonses wove issue 1' against 187 employees on u charge of absenting themselves from their employment without leave. The llr-t caw opened today and was. adjourned. r Counsel for the defence stated: "We nave exhausted all hope of settlement. It must be a light to the finish." It is reported thai the •strikers ATI relying on promises of financial support from other colliery dietriets. Wider complications are not improbable.
