-Mr. Skerretl, K.C., on behalf of respondents, stilted the facts of the ease at length, and contended that the jury was entitled to take the whole ut I the circumstances into consideration, and that under the circumstances the Ham-
ages were not excessive. No apology had been olleicd, and no attempt had iii-en made to ascertain Die real facts of the case, which would have allium l.lml the charge was absolutely false. Mr. Skerretl, referred to the newspaper report of Swiuliuriie v. the proprietor of the Melbourne Age, in which the Full Court of Victoria had refused to set aside a verdict of £.1500 given in a libel
action. The case will be continued to-morrow
