FARM AND DAIRY.

AX IDEAL PIG-STYE. Rcccntlv while travelling round the district a'representative of the Elthaii Argus got into conversation with a farmer and the talk drifted to the subject of pigs. The farmer stated that after much thinking he had made a stye which was most convenient. A visit was made to the ''piggery," and as the building was much in advance of anything of ite kind a few particulars concerning the came may be interesting. The huilder does not'breed many pigs but is a believer in having the'best of everything, rightly believing that to get the best results llr. Porker must Ims considered in every detail. The stye was bui t throughout of totara, and the dimensions arc 10 feet by 12 feet. The shelter pens are in two divisions, one being for pigs approaching "toppiug-off" and the other for wcaners. The feeding trou;<h is placed so that the milk may be fed , from the ground and not have to ho lifted over the top as in ordinary stye*. Again, the shelter ami feediir.' pens have ,1 slope of two inches towards the centre of the Moor so that all refuse speedily finds it way outside the pen. where it is trapped and ready to cart away when needed. At one end is a neat staging for loading purposes, so that the porker when ready for the factory is run from the stye through tile race to the cart without any bother. For cleaning purposes large doors are made, but the slope in the lloor prevents anv soil accumulating. The outside of the stye was trealel to a liberal coating of tar, and altogether the stye may be said to be clean, cosy and comfortable. The farmer j reckons the building will pay for itself in twelve months, as he believes the pigs will be ready for the factory a month earlier, besides saving four weeks feed and other attention.

Tsirannki will lie well represented with Jersey cattle at tlio Manawatu Show. Among flu! breeder* forwarding stock will lie Messrs. C. Clarke, l'aton, K. Oriiritlis (New Plymouth), O'Domiell, and Dr. Noonnn (Manaia).
