HON. MR HOFMEYR DEAD.

The Hon. Jan Ilafmeyr died suddenly from angina pectoris at' Whitehall Court after undergoing treatment in German?. The body has been embalmed and will be interred in Cape Colony.
(The Hon. ,T. H. Hofmeyr represented Cape Colony at the Ottawa Contemn, with Sir Henry de Villicrs and Sir Ohii Mills. He was an ex-journalist, hivfoj edited at Capetown the Volksvriend, Zuid Afrikaan, and the L. A. Tydschrift. Deceased represented Cape Colony, and proposed the scheme of Imperial Customs federation at the London ConferiMice. He was a member of tie South African Customs I'-nion Conferences in 1888 and 1K8I). In 1800 the deceased negotiated the Swaziland Convention with the Transvaal, and was deputed by the Cape Government to Rloemfonte'n and Pretoria in duly 1809 to obtain the franchise ami other concessions in order to prevent hostilities between the South African republics and Britain. He was a member of the Executive Oouno'l of Cape Colony, and chairman of tbo Afrikander the Cape District, and of the central committee of the Bond on elections. The deceased was 68 years of age.)
