j TIKOIUNGI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The -prospects for the dairying industry «rp very good, and 1 understand tiat Tikorangi Dairy Company have sold their output up till March 31st for ]()% d. The quantity of milk now being received at the local factory .shows a considerable increase compared to previous svasons the supply for September being 11,000 lbs more than that of the same month last year. This result is due in a great measure to the literal I use of basic slag, which scons peculiarly ; adapted to our soils. We are about to lose one of our most energetic settlers, "Mr. W. Crump, wao is retiring frotn business and removing to Now Plyihouth. In reference to the West Coast Settlement Reserves, tho decision of the ■Supremo Court that buahfclling and grassing were not improvements omy goes to prove the truth of Dickens' famous epigram that the law is \ •bass." It is commonly believed that lawyers can prove black to be whit: : but that is comparatively easy compared to the tasik of proving that bushfellmg ami grassing are not improvement?. Possibly the legal luminary viewed t!io question from the standpoint of the picturesque and regretted tlie ruthless destruction of beautiful scenery. In any case the "whole lnisin v.s is seancla lons and even the Public Trustee admits! the hardship. However, the lessees must be thankful for small mercies and congratulate themselves that they havJ made a distinct advance, inasmuch that in this one solitary instance they have the sympathy of the Public Trustee.
