I n the shoot oft Roberts won easily. James (290) finished about sixth or seventh. Sydney, Later. AX EXCITING FINISH. Received la, 10.25 p.m. Sydney, October 15. There wa9 bright weather and a fishtail wind for today's meeting, but despite these not too favorable conditions, the 800 yds range in the last stage of the King's Match saw nine possibles recorded James and Hadfield (Ne«- Zealand) coming 'within the list. Clyde registered 4!l, and King and Loveday 48. As an outcome of the first stage, Howitt retained the lead with 216, Kefford (Bathurst) being a point behind, wh'.le James and Hadfield were close up. The 900 yds range began to tell a talc. Howitt reached 238, ■while James, who was shooting splendidly, made 49*, putting him in the lead. Kefford was third but HailfieW failed with 40.
The lOOOyd's ended dismally for Some who had previously done we'll, thev being along with otlicrs whose chances had tint given much concern.

The shoot-off was rather hollow. Kefford, who looked the cooler man of tile two, missed the first three shots. Roberts blazed away rapidly, scoring three inners and winning the championship. Lord Dudley was present and was keenly interested in the, finish. GUARDS v. KAITAKE RIFLE CLUB
The Taranaki Guards had an enjoyable outing at Oakura on Thursday, when a team of ten tried conclusions with the Kaitake Rifle Club and suffered defeat by 70 points. The ranges were 200 and 500 yards, 10 shots at each. Following are the scores:—
