This resolution was then put before a deputation from tho Sports Ground Committee, and after considerable discussion, Mr. Humphries, on behalf of the deputation, stated tint he would place the terms before the committee, feeling certain they would be favorably considered, and that his committee would do all they could tj foster the interests of cricket if the cricketers themselves would show a cer tain amount of reciprocity. Th c secretary reported that he had communicated with the headmasters of the public schools with regard to a schools competition, and he thought th? matter would be enthusiastically taken up. Consequent on this Mr. Whittle, in his usual generous fashion, -wished to donate a shield for competition amongst the public schools of North Tnranaki. A final resolution was' passed to the effect, that Thursday cup matches be commenced on October 28th, and tli.it Ihe first two matches he arranged on the Waitara and Tnglewood grounds, M order to give, the Sports Ground all possible rest. .
