WEST'S PICIUKES-XO-NIGHT. "DRINK."
To-night will witness the first representation of the famous picture "Drink" in the Theatre Koyul, Xcw Plymouth. Everv detail of 'this human drama w faithfully depicted by foremost artistes of the French stage, and their graphic delineation of the author's conception requires no dialogue to explain the picture. The eventful life of Coupeau, around' whom this play is written, supplies inanv thrilling incidents for dramatic portrayal. The gentle nature of Cervaise i« shown in strong comparison to the diabolical actions of the scheming Virginie,aml the faithful Gouget appeals to everybody's better nature. Coupeau s many temptations and ultimate fall a.'e faithfully depicted, to the tragic finale which gives the eminent actor a brilliant opportunity of displaying his abilities. This picture has everywhere proved a great draw, and its cinematographic qualities are excellent. . The management conlhlenllv expect that its presentation here this evening will create as much inlcre.-t and enthusiasm as elsewhere received, especially in Wellington, where it was shown to crowded houses for over a week. Care has been exercised in the selection of the pictures t, support this subject, which will include muiiv others of dramatic, scenic, and instructive nature, beside* a full complement of the ever-popular comic relief. The prices advertised should please everybody.
POLLARD'S JUVENILE OPERA O.WPAXV.
Pollard's Juvenile Opera Company las been milking' warm friends in Austral!'., as well as in many of the centres of t'le Dominion, and to-morrow evening it ,wi!l renew acquaintance at the Theatic lioval, Mew Plynioutli, with its many patrons. The Pollards have grown inio an organisation of considerable dimensions, and while they have been touring successfully they have had countless ppurtiinities to add to their stores of knowledge ami to develop the arts in which they were making considerable progress when tliey last appeared in | Xew I'lymouth. That they have «•)„ i missed their opportunities is shown o.Y Ihe applause that has welcomed them wherever they have. been. One of the most popular pieces in their rcporcuivo has heen the familiar comic opera "lliinola," and this has been selected for the opening. 'The reception it has had elsewhere is typified by one of the recent reports of tin; production, which described it as "marked by beautiful scenery, lirst-elass eostumiering, aa.l callable acting and singing. The company play in luglewood to-night, where it is almost certain the ImU will not i.i large enough to accommodate intending patron*.
